Committee: Senior Breakfast

*Committee: Asian American Festivals*

The festive evening celebration of Asian culture in the spring is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 30, complete with professional dancers, musicians, henna painting, calligraphy and of course foods from throughout Asian culture. Professor Lee coordinates with the students. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to support the students by providing food and decor donations for both events!

COMPLETED: The Lunar New Year staff breakfast was held January 31 at 7 am this year, with parent volunteers asked to arrive by 6:30 am to assist with set-up. See photos on the home page.

*Committee: Substance Use Programming *
Chair: Mitra Ahadpour, fbfb@bellsouth.net SEEKING VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE ON THIS COMMITTEE!
This committee arranges for discussions, speakers and programs on the dangers of underage vaping, smoking and taking drugs; underage drinking; and drinking/texting and driving. It identifies best practices in other schools that have successfully reduced student substance abuse. Volunteers are welcome! The newly formed S.A.D.D. Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions) has just been formed and held its first meeting in December. The PTSA is sponsoring an anti-vaping poster contest through February 28. Committee: After Prom Events Programming

After Prom will be held at Dave & Buster’s this spring! The chairs need help from parent volunteers to assist in chaperoning that evening. Please contact them above if you are available to plan and assist!

The MCProjectProm mission is “to support the efforts of volunteer parents in Montgomery County, Maryland who coordinate alcohol-free and drug-free After-Prom and After-Graduation events.
History and Goals: Montgomery County Project Prom/Graduation (MCPP/G) was founded in March, 1992. It is a coalition of volunteer parents from Montgomery County, Maryland, who coordinate alcohol-free and drug-free all-night after-prom/after-graduation celebrations. MCPP/G was organized to assist volunteers, to share information and resources, and to solicit regional support for their programs.”

Created by a group of parents interested in “the smart and safe use of technology at our schools, its impact on students’ physical and mental health, digital privacy and evolving safety guidelines. Committee: Parent-Principal Coffee Conversations

This committee coordinates four informal morning coffees at the school throughout the fall and winter. Open discussions will be held with parents about topics of interest, and hear from students, department leads, and the principal and administrators.

This committee supports the needs of 504, IEP, Bridge and Autism students at Churchill and works closely with the Special Needs department. Please reach out to Sharon or Bo if you have questions, ideas or concerns. Both of these amazing parents have wonderful resources to share and suggest.

Committee: Reflections National Art Contest

The 2019 theme for this annual national PTA art contest is “Look Within,” and is interpreted in the six areas of film, dance, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.  Our students received impressive wins at the county level of judging and are now awaiting the state contest decisions! Committee: Counseling Advisory Committee

Volunteers are requested for the Counseling Advisory Committee. The CAC facilitates and supports open dialogue between students, counselors and parents in an interactive group setting; provides an opportunity to discuss student mental health and other school culture experiences, needs and wish lists; addresses student questions; advocates for students needs and recommends and helps implement resources to assist students, such as arranging for guest speakers, offering books, movies and more; locates and coordinates parent volunteers to assist counselors for several projects, including Maryland College Night; provides coverage to answer the counseling phone line; compiles college packs for students; sponsors coat drives; and a variety of other projects, as needed, to support students and counselors.

Committee: Traffic Safety Initiative

This committee ensures that vehicles and pedestrians mix safely on the campus, and that the neighboring community needs are kept in mind. The committee helps plan for future needs of the school’s traffic flow with school administration, as well as senior parking space allotment.

This event has traditionally been a community feast of homemade cooked and baked goods, fruit and coffee for staff. We need a team to organize this event and monitor a Signup Genius, to solicit dishes from parents and donations for purchased items from Giant/Safeway/Costco. Decor is also on the menu – welcome signage, flowers, tablecoths, etc. This event is scheduled for August 30, 2019, from 6:30 am – 9:00 am. STUDENTS ARE WELCOME TO HELP US SET UP AND SERVE, FOR SSL HOURS. See the home page for photos.

COMPLETED: Committee: New Student Welcome Pizza Lunch

Event Date: August 29, 2019 – set-up pizzas and drinks for teacher distribution to students by 10:00 am
This committee organizes the new student welcome pizza lunch, which they are invited to attend after their morning orientation at Churchill. Teachers and staff hand out pizza and drinks to the students. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO HELP US COORDINATE THIS IMPORTANT EVENT SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 29! Potomac Pizza will deliver pizzas at 10:00 and we return the warming pouches afterward. We are trying to recycle as much as we can this year. Pouring students recyclable paper cups with water and lemonades is preferable to handing out single-use plastic bottles. Please consider helping us organize this event ASAP!

COMPLETED: Committee: Staff Thank-You Grab & Go Breakfast for Staying Late at Back to School Night the Night Before

This event is a tradition to thank the teachers and staff for staying late the prior night at Back to School Night. It is a smaller version of the welcome back breakfast, and can also include homemade cooked and baked goods, fruit and coffee, as well as yogurts and breakfast bars to take out; to be held in Room 126. September 5, 2019, 6:00 – 9:00 am.
